Claire Pope - Bio

After sleeping for 5 years, Claire abandoned England in 2001 for a GAP year in Australia, where she swam the Great Barrier Reef, fell down Ayers Rock and in her spare time helped privileged children with drama and music. Claire was returned to England, seemingly against her will and after spending two weeks at home with her family she realised that what she really needed to do was to head back down to the beach.

Luckily she found herself studying at the Bournemouth Media School, the highlights of which came in the final year when Claire was shocked to discover that other people liked her work. Her documentary short, 'After Refuge', which examined the effects of immigration on cultural identity, was short listed for The Big Issue Film Festival and subsequently broadcast on the Community Channel and acquired by Shorts International. It was also selected by the British Council for further festival distribution and acquired by The English and Media Centre to be used as an educational resource.

Her next film looked at online Pro Anorexia Support Groups that encourage anorexia. By using the transcripts and characters from several different sites and transposing them to a physical setting, the film accurately portrayed this growing phenomenon. 'Dear Ana…' has been highly praised by Leo Regan (Director of Comfortably Numb), Tony Garnet (Producer of Cathy Come Home) and Steve Bloomfield, Head of Communications at the Eating Disorders Association. But alas its distribution so far has been kept to friends and family; a fact that Claire likes to believe is due to the film being ‘ahead of its time’.

After failing to destroy the reputations of Touch Productions, Meridian Broadcasting, and Spanner Films, Claire currently finds herself undertaking numerous roles within the Media Industry, predominately tea making, transcribing and promoting great documentaries to the general public. She directs event films and corporate promos and as a result knows everything about overhead line clearance. In her spare time she is currently developing documentary projects with OnMeJack Productions where she hopes to follow up on the success of 'After Refuge'.
